Wrexley Lantern Walk Book a lantern

Case file 01 / The keeper

The light
stayed on
for nobody.

For eleven winters after the last keeper left, someone kept the lamp on Gull Rock trimmed. The logbook has handwriting in it through 1931.

Case file 02 / Below the line

The tide
gives things
back.

The schooner Marrow Bell went down in 1887 with a cargo of church bells. On still nights at low water, fishermen swear they hear one.

Wrecks & salvage

Case file 03 / Over the headland

Three lights.
No boat.
No answer.

Since 1962 the coastguard has logged the same three lights over Crane Head forty-one times. The walk ends where you can see the spot.
